Well, it certainly has been an interesting and long year and a half, but I have returned to the stage!
This is a short clip of my final studio rehearsals and then we set of to Southampton Mayflower Studio were Adult Female Dancer and Fantasia were premiered in a souble bill.
I was extremely pleased to get a fantastic 4 star review from the acclaimed dance critic Donald Hutera in The Times;
A Thing of Beauty review — Rosie Kay bounces back in style
This smart, salutary double bill marks a comeback for the gifted British choreographer Rosie Kay. She has been creating dances for a quarter of a century, often tackling heavy-hitting topics such as war, religion and conspiracy theories. In 2018 her work for the live telecast of the Commonwealth Games handover ceremony was seen by more than a billion viewers.
There is much to recommend here. For starters, Kay’s focus is on strong female dancers — including herself. She made the first iteration of the 30-minute autobiographical solo Adult Female Dancer in 2020. Its central subject is Kay’s deep, complex relationship with dance and her own, now early middle-aged body. It is a deft blend of movement, interspersed with voiceover narration, that conveys grief, pleasure, struggle and joy.
